    You breed too long past 7 consecutive years. *The older the goat doe, the harder a vaginal non-medicated birthing is for them. *Think of a 50 year old woman in good to excellent health having a non- medicated vaginal birth 😮 Q.)Which is easier? 1.) A 20 year old having a non- medicated birth vaginal, -Or - 2.) A good to excellent health 50 yr old woman having a non- medicated vaginally birth ? A.) ? Goats are usually a vaginal non- medicated birth. I suppose twins/triplets could call reason for a C-section, if one has a good goat vet and the money: most are average income goat farmers, that hearing your video would continue a random pregnancy up to 10 years 😮 Safer for yearly pregnancy than every 2-3 years up to 7 year old doe. My opinion only. Thank you Oklahoma

    • @SpragueRiverHomestead
      @SpragueRiverHomestead 2 години тому

      Yep, that's definitely your opinion and not the veterinary standard, any breed standard, or what literally millions of farmers worldwide actually do. I've known actual 20 years old that had more birthing complications than healthy late 40s and 50 years olds. So the argument doesn't hold water.

    By any chance could you tell me how much panacur hirse paste to use for full size californian doe with tilted head? Want to try to help her before bonking her. Have you ever had a rabbit that got that? Is it uncommon or seen more often nowadays? Ive never heard of it before.

    • @SpragueRiverHomestead
      @SpragueRiverHomestead 5 днів тому

      No, I can't give a dosage for panacur. Paste wormers are not safe for any animal under 100 lbs. For wry neck, you need to be treating with liquid Safeguard for goats. Follow dosage info on the bottle. Its the most effective for wry neck. You need to treat every 3rd day for 2 weeks. Often it doesn't reverse, only halt the damage. Depends on how far along they are. The condition isn't uncommon. I get contacted for help pretty regularly.

    Can you rebreed mom 2 weeks after kindling? Thanks.

    • @SpragueRiverHomestead
      @SpragueRiverHomestead 8 днів тому

      Unlikely. Most does will not rebreed while nursing young. And there's no good reason to. Kits do not have fully formed digestive systems until 10ish weeks of age. They NEED to stay with mom under at least 8 weeks of age to take advantage of her cecotropes. Weaning early is the top cause of weaning enteritis and bloat (which cause kit death in the vast majority of cases).

    Have you ever fed your rabbits with comfrey plants? I've heard it's good for deworm and high in protein

    • @SpragueRiverHomestead
      @SpragueRiverHomestead 10 днів тому

      I don't suggest comfrey be used more than once or twice a week. While it is good for nursing mothers, it also is very hard on the digestive system and causes liver damage over time. I've seen a few studies showing that herds fed as little as 20-30% of their diet in comfrey showed liver damage in under 12 weeks. If you hit google you can find a few of them. I've never seen anything supporting the notion of comfrey as a dewormer. There are quite a few plants that can do the job that are easier on the stomach.

      It can. Just keep in mind that it'll make the hair really greasy. I personally wouldnt though. Putting it in the ears is cleaner and in my experience more effective. Hair tends to absorb some of the medicine and changes the available dose. Going in the ears still reaches the bloodstream, which is the goal when dealing with lice.

      Its can, but has a higher percentage of failure. Remember, does are induced ovulators. If uninterested for whatever reason, most will not ovulate. Forced mating is usually traumatic for the doe and usually doesn't yield results, so I don't recommend it.

    What wattage is your diesel generator? I know my whole house generator can put out more wattage than I would ever use and in order to save that unused wattage I bought some LifePo4 Batteries to store that power for later usage, this way I can cut down on the generator usage and save fuel. Throw in a few solar panels and get some of that sun power on sunny days. Using both batteries and a generator with a few solar panels are a good combination. A decent size solar power station would be even better, you could tie it into your electrical panel box…

    • @SpragueRiverHomestead

    Question here? Treated a rabbit I adopted, ear mites and the walking dandruff . Treated with ivermectin, .01 mls ivermectin to .09mls water , half in each ear, will treat again at the 10 day mark, same amount. Walking dandruff is the question, my buck is about 10 pounds, I want to topically apply 1 drop ,undiluted, at the base of the neck, thoughts?

    • @SpragueRiverHomestead
      @SpragueRiverHomestead Місяць тому

      Well, so far you've undosed him to the point it's ineffective, especially since you diluted it. A 10# buck should be treated at .01 per pound, so .1cc/ml. NEVER dilute medication. Putting water (unless distilled) in the ear canal is asking for infection. Since you've pretty much given him nothing so far, administer the correct dosage split between the 2 ears. You don't need to give it topically on his nape. Once it's in the blood stream it'll take care of the fur mites. If you really feel the need to, put a drop or two of his dose on the nape and the rest into his ears.

    Are you mental ? You do realize that the splitter is designed to be run in the vertical position and the horizontal position is an alternative way for people with a whole bunch of energy and a good back. However, a person can use much less energy by using the splitter as designed in the vertical position. I have this exact splitter and it works wonderfully especially the auto return as i am getting the next log in place while its returning and if im ready i just tap the lever when its high enough. I have split logs that you probably couldn't lift up and put it on it horizontally. I am still laughing at what a newb you are and how you have done so much extra work than necessary to split wood. Lol I'm imagining you lifting each piece up on the unit and smh busting my gut laughing man. Try it in the vertical position and if you use it properly there is no way you could ever split as much wood with an axe as with this unit. Not even close.

    • @SpragueRiverHomestead
      @SpragueRiverHomestead Місяць тому

      We started the channel after the barn was built, so don't have any videos of it. We used 10 48inch tall by 16' long goat panels. The base frame was 20'4" by 20'. There was a 2x6 center beam down the middle, supported by 3 4x4 posts about 9'6" tall. We tied the panels together in pairs, and to end overlapped a couple of squares, then sliding one end up and over the center beam until it came over and down into the bottom frame. Repeat with the other 4 pairs, making sure they're tight together side by side. Tie them together when all pairs are in place. We then stapled them to the center beam and along the bottom frame with fence staples. You'll need additional bracing depending on how you build your doors and end, snow loads, roof material, etc.

      Maybe nothing. Is she acting bred at all? She would be refusing and usually vocalizing. I have twice had Mini Rex bucks that never fell off. I was sure they weren't breeding until the does started looking very pregnant and nesting with their hay. If she isn't acting bred, then she's probably not lifting. Expose her vent and check the color. If she is pale or light pink she isn't receptive right now. Its time for molt in many areas, and quite a few does won't breed during molt as their hormone levels change.

      At 3 weeks old I would suspect coccidiosis. You can feed the same way, but you also need to be giving CORID or sulfamet.

    If there was a broken variety it would be quite striking! They are already lovely.

    I have been dabbling in rabbits for several years. I agree on much. I live in a northern area. I do not breed does more than2-3X a year. Slowly learning more and growing. Kinda keep around 2 bucks and 4-6 does. Am not losing weight due to malnutrition

    Thank you, I don’t know why other videos don’t mention heat as a potential factor. We really appreciate you ♥️♥️♥️

    Ive heard that petstore and fishing bait store mealworms have been "treated" with some chemical that makes them sterile and they wont pupate? Where did you get yours, and did this turn out true with any you've tried?

      I've never heard that. I actually bought a full tank breeding colony from a gal on Craigslist of all places and haven't had to bring in any outside stock. She told me her initial bugs came from Petsmart.

      Only when breeding jumbo/giant mealworms. A veterinarian or an exterminator introduces the colony a hormone. Regular mealworms are clean...
